Queen Eleanor Cyclists Update

It was a cram packed and eventful four days for our cyclists who passed through lush scenery, picturesque towns and historical sights on route to London.

Roger Shaljean, Chair of the Queen Eleanor Cycle committee, shares parts of the journey with us.

"The journey began with a blessing and 'bon voyages' in the village of Herby where Queen Eleanor died in 1290. From there we made our way, guided by our splendid local supporter and historian Richard Croft to Lincoln Cathedral.

After an illuminating visit to Eleanor's tomb in the Cathedral we began the 200 mile cycle to Westminster Abbey. All the cyclists received 'history lessons' at the 12 sites of Queen Eleanor's crosses. Everyone took photos at the 3 crosses remaining in the towns of Geddington, Hardingstone and Waltham.

We're very grateful to all our supporters. We had numerous helpers along the route and hot meals were provided at each of the stops to keep energy levels up.

David Holtam joined us for the last two days which was a big help as he knew the route like the back of his hand. At St Mary-le-Bow we were joined by a couple of folk from St Martin's congregation including one on 'Boris's bike'!

There were high spirits at the end and the fusion of support from the congregation, supporters on route and The Connection at St Martin's helped sustain the enthusiasm"
