Shell Push Themselves to the Limit in Endurance Fundraiser
We are extremely grateful to Shell International who pushed themselves to the limit to raise over £6,500 for The Connection at St Martin's.
The Enduroman Arch to Arc triathlon is not for the faint hearted. It is recognised as one of the most physically and mentally draining events. Participants start at Marble Arch in London and have to run 87 miles to Dover, followed by a cross-channel swim to the French coast and then a 180 mile cycle to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
Six colleagues from Shell not only successfully finished the challenge but they broke the world record in the process, completing it in 37:15:30 - faster than the British Military.
Marion Wagner, who led and took part in the challenge describes how tough it was, particularly the swim across the channel as energy levels were low due to sleep deprivation and one loses all sense of time when you're in the water with only a boat to focus on. However, she describes how it was worth it and how 'ecstatic' they all felt when they reached the finishing point in Paris.
Despite the tough challenge Marion describes her favourite part: "Seeing the Arc de Triomphe lit up at night and knowing we had not only made it safely but within a world record time. Also, the amazing support of so many people that sponsored us for a very worthy cause kept us going at the end.
