Step Up in to Work
A high proportion of the homeless people we see have no experience of the working world. Step Up is designed to bridge this gap by creating work experience opportunities for homeless people across different departments at The Connection.
Candidates will learn vital new skills and the supported placements will increase confidence and self esteem so people are better equipped to enter the working world.
Placements are already underway in the kitchen. Francisco talks about why he applied to Step Up:
"“So I can learn new skills and any job that calls will be proud to have me because I can cook well. At the moment I can’t get a job. I lost my job, house and everything because I suffer from depression. It’s very hard to get work when you’re sleeping rough. Lots of employers don’t call me back because I’m on the streets. But, I’m fighting for it. I want to improve my writing so I’m starting ESOL at college on Monday. My dream is to be a Chef, move in to accommodation and set up a bank account for my two children so I can help with their future.”
