The Day Centre provides people with emotional support and practical facilities including:
initial assessment to all new people establishing how we can help
café serving low cost & nutritious food
showers & laundry
telephones & computers
NHS medical service with nurses & a podiatrist on Wednesday mornings
Providing hot food and clean clothes greatly improves how people feel so they are in a better position to work with us, and take the necessary steps in addressing their situation. Staff support people with the crisis of being homeless, and encourage them to access other services in the building which aid their progression. This could be attending an activity workshop to gain new skills, or if already housed people may need support to find work with our in-house employment & training provision.
Our Night Centre can accommodate 75-80 homeless people every night to protect them from the dangers of sleeping out, with extra space available during severe weather. Rough sleepers are referred in by our Street Outreach teams and on arrival people can have something hot to eat, wash their clothes and watch films or use the computers. Staff are available to support people with any issues they may have. It provides temporary accommodation while longer term housing is found, or appropriate re-connection into alternative services is established.
