Hot weather emergency appeal

Temperatures are set to soar this weekend

Summer has arrived, and we’re seeing very high temperatures throughout the country this week.

This isn’t good news for everyone. Being homeless in extreme heat can be as dangerous as cold weather – and can kill.

In 2023, 1,474 people died whilst homeless in the UK. That’s 4 people every day. Notable spikes in deaths occurred in January, May and August.

During winter, emergency measures are adopted by nearly all local authorities and homelessness services to prevent deaths. It’s far less common for services to implement emergency measures in hot weather, which is equally dangerous.

But we are.

Our team is on the streets giving out bottles of water, sun protection and suitable clothing.

We are also extending our day centre opening hours to give people shelter from the sun when they need it, and making bed spaces available to keep people safe overnight.

But we need your help.

Last year we spent over £10,000 helping people stay safe in the heat. Please help us by purchasing items from www.hotweatheremergency.com or making a donation below.

Other ways you can help:

  • Offering water and sunscreen
  • Contacting Streetlink to connect people to support
  • Donating unopened sunscreen or good quality summer clothing, like T-shirts and sun hats.
  • Thank you so much for your support. It could help save lives.
