Derryn rediscover his confidence and a new direction through photography after five years of homelessness.

Derryn moved to London from Devon after his mother died. Seeking a fresh start away from painful memories, he soon found that life in the capital was far from easy.

Derryn spent five years living on the streets before he came to The Connection and found support to rebuild his life.

Our team helped Derryn find a training course which ignited a passion for photography. This has given him a new sense of direction, helping him to focus on his next steps.

“I tried a 12-week course in photography and video, and I even got to film an event. It was something I’d never thought about doing before.”

Despite the challenges he’s faced, Derryn remains determined to move forward. When asked about his hopes for the future, he is clear:

In time, Derryn wants to move into private accommodation and leave the streets behind.

Derryn’s experience shows just how vital charities like The Connection are in helping people move on from homelessness. We do more than just offer immediate assistance such as food and showers —we equip people with the tools and opportunities to build a brighter future.
