Monday marks the the 30th anniversary of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

This Day allows us to reflect on the 30% of Londoners currently facing poverty and the shared responsibility we hold to eradicate poverty and combat all forms of discrimination.

Homelessness is one of the most distressing possible outcomes of poverty. As the cost of living continues to rise, more and more people are being pushed to the edge.

This year, the UN is promoting Dignity for All in Practice as the theme of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty for 2022. Dignity is fundamental to our human rights and it belongs to each and every one of us. People experiencing homelessness often express that their sense of dignity is denied everyday. That’s why we work with, never for, the people we support to ensure their wants and needs are respected on their own terms.

Despite our work, unequal access to opportunities and liveable income are increasing under the cost of living crisis.

But poverty and inequality are not inevitable. We can all work to undo the social exclusion and structural discrimination in our society. Join us on this International Day for the Eradication of Poverty to support those without a home or safe place to go.
