When Jason first came to us, he had been sleeping rough for years. Nights were spent walking the streets looking for somewhere safe to rest for a few hours, often carrying everything he owned with him. He describes constantly moving around London, exhausted and trying to survive day by day.
Jason first heard about The Connection after outreach workers found him sleeping rough and encouraged him to visit the centre for support. Since then, the service has become a place where he can access essentials many people take for granted — a hot shower, food, clean clothes, computers and somewhere safe indoors.

Reflecting on life on the streets, Jason spoke about the constant instability and how difficult it can be to move forwards when you are homeless. Important belongings and ID are often lost or stolen, making it even harder to find work or secure housing. Despite these challenges, Jason remains determined to rebuild his life and hopes to return to employment.
The Connection has also helped Jason stay connected to wider support services, including outreach teams and employability support. He says simply: “Just trying to get a job… trying to sort myself back.”
For people like Jason, services such as The Connection provide far more than immediate practical help. They offer dignity, safety and a crucial first step towards stability and recovery. With continued support from donors, more people experiencing homelessness can access the support they need to move away from life on the streets.
